Leicester City Winger Abdul Fatawu Sidelined For Season Due to Serious ACL Injury

Abdul Fataru sideline for the season

Leicester City’s young talent Abdul Fatawu will miss the remainder of the season following a “serious” knee injury sustained while on international duty with Ghana.

The devastating news was confirmed by manager Steve Cooper ahead of Leicester’s Premier League clash against Chelsea this Saturday (12:30 GMT).

The 20-year-old winger suffered the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Ghana’s international fixture against Angola, leaving both his club and fans in dismay.

“It’s not good; it’s a serious injury,” said Cooper.

“He’s had an ACL injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season.

It’s a real blow for him, being such a young player with a bright future, and for us as a team.”

A Promising Career Temporarily Halted

Fatawu has been a crucial player for Leicester, helping the Foxes secure promotion last season.

He has made 11 league appearances this campaign and had become a pivotal part of the squad, particularly after his standout performance in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Southampton on October 21.

In that match, Fatawu came off the bench to inspire Leicester’s comeback from 2-0 down.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given praised the winger’s impact during that game, describing him as “absolutely lightning” and a “brilliant talent” who deserved a starting role.

Leicester’s Current Standing

Leicester City currently sits 15th in the Premier League table, with 10 points from 11 games. Fatawu’s absence will be keenly felt as the team strives to climb out of the lower half of the table.

Despite the setback, Cooper remains optimistic about the young star’s recovery.

It’s only a pause. We’ll ensure he comes back stronger, both as a player and a person. With his mentality and character, I’m confident he’ll overcome this challenge.”

ACL Injuries: A Common Yet Challenging Hurdle

ACL injuries are unfortunately common in football and can sideline players for several months. For Fatawu, this injury represents not just a physical challenge but a test of his resilience.

At just 20 years old, his potential remains vast, and Leicester City fans will undoubtedly be eager to see his return to the pitch.

The road to recovery may be long, but Fatawu’s determination and talent suggest he has the ability to bounce back and continue his ascent as one of football’s most exciting young players.
