Chris Smalling set to depart Roma for Al-Fahya FC

Roma defender Chris Smalling has reached a mutually beneficial agreement with Al-Fahya FC, signaling the end of his four-year tenure with the Giallorossi.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Smalling will undergo medical tests on Monday in Rome before signing a contract with the Saudi Arabian club until June 2026.

This development comes as no surprise, as Smalling’s desire to leave Roma has been well-documented.

The Serie A transfer window may have closed on Friday, August 30, but Saudi Arabian clubs have an extended window, allowing them to sign new players until Monday, September 2.

In preparation for Smalling’s departure, Roma have secured a replacement in former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso.

The Spaniard joins on a free transfer, enabling him to sign with Roma after the summer transfer window closes.

As Roma prepares to face Juventus at the Allianz Stadium in Turin tonight, manager Daniele De Rossi has adjusted his lineup.

The Giallorossi will employ a three-man defense, featuring Gianluca Mancini, Evan N’dicka, and Angelino.

Smalling’s time at Roma has been marked by 155 appearances since joining from Manchester United in 2019.

His contributions will be remembered, but the club is poised to move forward with a new defensive lineup.
