Liverpool Manager Arne Slot Handed Two-Match Ban and £70,000 Fine After Merseyside Derby Chaos

Arne Slot hands 2 matches suspension

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been hit with a two-match touchline ban and a £70,000 ($88,500) fine by the Football Association following his red card in the turbulent aftermath of the Merseyside derby on February 12.

The incident occurred after a heated clash between Liverpool and Everton players at the final whistle, during which Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucouré and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones were both sent off for receiving second yellow cards.

Slot confronted referee Michael Oliver, admitting to acting “in an improper manner” and using “insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour” towards both the match official and an assistant referee.

Liverpool’s assistant manager, Sipke Hulshoff, who also accepted a similar charge, received a two-game ban and a £7,000 fine after being dismissed alongside Slot.

Both clubs faced disciplinary action as well, with Everton and Liverpool fined £65,000 and £50,000 respectively for failing to control their players and technical staff, who displayed “improper and/or provocative” conduct.

The chaos began when Doucouré appeared to celebrate provocatively in front of Liverpool fans following James Tarkowski’s dramatic equalizer in the eighth minute of stoppage time, securing a 2-2 draw in what was the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Curtis Jones reacted by charging towards Doucouré, sparking a brawl between the two teams.

Slot, visibly frustrated, shook Oliver’s hand before making a remark that prompted the referee to brandish a red card once more.
