Mohamed Salah’s second-half penalty helped Liverpool secure a crucial 2-1 victory over Wolves, returning them to the top of the Premier League.
The win at Molineux came after a hard-fought match where Liverpool’s early advantage, thanks to Ibrahima Konaté‘s first Premier League goal, was temporarily undone by Rayan Aït-Nouri‘s equalizer.
Liverpool, now led by new manager Arne Slot, capitalized on Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle to leapfrog both City and Arsenal, reaffirming their position as title contenders.
Wolves, despite a promising start, once again struggled to convert early pressure into points.
Their attack, led by Matheus Cunha, posed some threat, but Alisson confidently handled any danger in goal.
Despite Wolves’ energy, Liverpool gradually took control, nearly scoring five minutes before the break when Dominik Szoboszlai‘s close-range effort was brilliantly saved by Sam Johnstone.

The breakthrough came just before half-time when Diogo Jota’s cross found Konaté, who powered in a header to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead.
Johnstone could have done better, but Konaté’s towering leap made the difference.
Salah had a chance to extend the lead early in the second half, missing a golden opportunity after a misplaced pass by Mario Lemina.
Wolves responded in the 56th minute when Aït-Nouri equalized, capitalizing on Carlos Forbs‘ mis-hit shot after Ibrahima Konaté lost possession.
However, Wolves’ celebration was short-lived.
Five minutes later, Nelson Semedo fouled Jota inside the box, allowing Salah to calmly convert the penalty and secure the win for Liverpool.
While not a dominant display, Liverpool’s resilience and clinical edge proved decisive.
With five wins out of six matches, their only setback being a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest, Arne Slot’s Liverpool continues to look strong at the top, ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Wolves remain winless and rooted to the bottom of the table.
