Cristiano Ronaldo has boldly claimed he is “the most complete player to have existed,” acknowledging fans who admire Lionel Messi, Pelé, or Diego Maradona but insisting that statistics prove his dominance.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, now 39, has shattered numerous records throughout his illustrious career.
He currently holds the title of the highest goal scorer in men’s football history with an incredible 923 goals. His latest milestone came with a stunning brace in Al Nassr’s dominant 4-0 AFC Champions League victory over Al Wasl on Monday.
“Who’s the best goal scorer in history? It’s about numbers.” Ronaldo confidently stated in an exclusive interview with Spanish television show El Chiringuito on Monday.
Unmatched Versatility on the Pitch
Ronaldo emphasized his all-around abilities, showcasing why he believes he is the most complete player ever.
“Who’s the player in history who’s scored the most goals with their head, left foot, right foot, penalties, and free kicks?” Ronaldo questioned.
“I was looking the other day, and even though I’m not left-footed, I’m in the top 10 goal scorers with their left foot in history.
And I’m also there with my head, my right foot, and penalties. All of them.”
Throughout his career, Ronaldo has faced constant comparisons with Messi, as both have dominated the football world for over a decade. However, he remains firm in his belief that his skills set him apart.

“I’m talking about numbers,” he reiterated.
“I think I’m the most complete player to have existed. In my opinion, it’s me. I excel in every aspect of football heading, free kicks, left foot, right foot. I’m fast, I’m strong.
“People have their preferences whether it’s Messi, Pelé, or Maradona I respect that. But to say Ronaldo isn’t complete? That’s not true. I’ve never seen anyone better than me, and I say that from the heart.”
No Plans for Retirement Yet
At 39, retirement is not on Ronaldo’s mind. His relentless drive keeps him pushing boundaries year after year.
“I’m so competitive that sometimes I forget what I’ve already achieved,” he admitted.
“That hunger to keep improving is what sets me apart. Many players in my position would have retired 10 years ago. I’m different.”
Ronaldo made history by becoming one of the first elite players to move to the Saudi Pro League after leaving Manchester United for Al Nassr in 2023. He addressed critics who downplay the league’s quality.
“People speak without knowing,” he said.
“They compare the Saudi Pro League to MLS, but obviously, MLS is worse.
However, because it’s Saudi Arabia, there’s a lack of respect. People don’t understand what they’re talking about. The talent here deserves recognition.”
Reflecting on Real Madrid and Bellingham’s Future
Ronaldo also opened up about his departure from Real Madrid in 2018, revealing that the club “didn’t treat him well” during contract negotiations.
However, he did not rule out a return to the Bernabéu in some capacity after his playing days end.
Praising Madrid’s rising star Jude Bellingham, Ronaldo compared the young English midfielder to a football legend.
“Bellingham reminds me of [Zinedine] Zidane,” Ronaldo said.
“Zidane was brilliant his play was beautiful. Bellingham is just 21; his future is incredibly bright. He will be a top player.”
