Marcus Rashford has fueled speculation about his future at Manchester United by revealing he is “ready for a new challenge.”
The 27-year-old forward expressed his frustrations after being dropped from Ruben Amorim‘s squad for Sunday’s 2-1 derby win against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking candidly at a school event in Manchester, Rashford shared,
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.
When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings.’ You won’t hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s just who I am.”
Frustration at United
Rashford and winger Alejandro Garnacho were notably absent from the derby squad, with Amorim attributing the decision to various factors, including performance in training, professionalism, and attitude.

Rashford’s form this season has seen him fall out of favor in the starting XI. Off-field incidents have compounded his struggles, including disciplinary issues under former manager Erik ten Hag.
Last season, Rashford was left out of an FA Cup match against Newport after a controversial night out in Belfast, and similar lapses have reportedly strained his standing at the club.
Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag last month, assured fans that Rashford and Garnacho would have a “clean slate” under his management. However, Rashford’s recent comments suggest his patience may be wearing thin.
“It’s disheartening to be left out of a derby, but it’s happened.
We won the game, so let’s move on,” he said.
“What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry? Or do my best the next time I’m available.”
A Potential Departure on the Horizon
Having signed a £325,000-a-week, 4½-year contract extension in July 2023, Rashford remains one of United’s highest earners.
While a January transfer would command a significant fee, sources suggest limited interest from European clubs, with the Saudi Pro League emerging as the most likely destination for the forward.
Rashford, who made his debut for United as an 18-year-old, remains a polarizing figure among fans. Despite being a homegrown talent and Manchester-born, he has faced criticism for perceived inconsistency and off-field distractions.
A Player Misunderstood
Addressing his critics, Rashford described himself as “misunderstood” but remains unfazed by public opinion.
“I’m a very simple person. I love football that’s been my life from the beginning.”
“I’m halfway through my career. I don’t expect my peak to be now. The last nine years in the Premier League have taught me a lot and helped me grow. I have no regrets.”
Rashford also spoke about his aspirations and the unending drive for personal growth.
“I have my own dreams. I’ve achieved parts of it, but I’m not where I want to be. The thing is, when you get there, you create another goal. It’s a cycle that never stops.”
What’s Next for Rashford?
Rashford’s immediate focus will likely shift to United’s upcoming Carabao Cup quarterfinal against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.
However, his recent comments strongly suggest that his long-term future lies away from Old Trafford.
As the January transfer window approaches, Manchester United fans will be watching closely to see if Rashford’s nine-year journey with the club comes to an end.
