Dani Olmo’s Minor Knee Issue Forces Early Return To Barcelona

Dani Olmo

Spain forward Dani Olmo will play no part in Sunday’s UEFA Nations League clash against Switzerland due to a minor knee problem, prompting his early return to Barcelona.

The 26-year-old was substituted in the 82nd minute of Spain’s goalless draw against Serbia in Belgrade on Thursday, sparking concerns over his fitness.

Sources close to the player have alleviated fears, insisting the injury is not serious.

However, as a precautionary measure, Olmo will sit out the Switzerland match and head back to his club to receive further treatment.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick will be hoping to have Olmo available for their upcoming LaLiga fixture against Girona next Sunday.

The Catalan giants have enjoyed a perfect start to their league campaign, winning all four games so far.

Olmo’s absence comes at a challenging time for Barcelona, who are already grappling with a midfield injury crisis.

Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Marc Bernal are all sidelined, while Oriol Romeu and Ilkay Gündogan departed the club during the transfer window.

De Jong‘s return is imminent, but Pablo Gavi faces a lengthy recovery period, and Bernal is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Defensive woes also plague Flick, with centre-backs Ronald Araújo and Andreas Christensen out for the foreseeable future.

However, Ansu Fati‘s return from a season-long loan at Brighton will provide a welcome boost to the attack after the international break.

Olmo, who joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig for €55 million this summer, has made a promising start to his career at the Camp Nou.

Despite missing the first two games due to registration issues, he has scored crucial goals in wins over Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid.
