Bayern Munich’s iconic goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has officially extended his contract until June 2026, the club has confirmed.
This extension solidifies Neuer’s legacy at the German giants, where he has been a cornerstone of success for over a decade.
A Decorated Career at Bayern
Since joining Bayern Munich from Schalke in 2011, Neuer has built an illustrious career, winning 11 Bundesliga titles and six DFB Cups. His trophy haul also includes two historic trebles, where Bayern lifted the Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and UEFA Champions League in the same season.
At 38 years old, Neuer continues to be a commanding presence between the posts. The Bayern captain, who has worn the armband since 2017, was previously set to become a free agent in the summer.

Neuer’s Commitment to Bayern
Expressing his excitement about continuing at Bayern, Neuer stated:
“I really enjoy playing football and want to remain a Bayern player. I’m still hungry and am looking forward to another year at this special club.
We’ve always had good talks, and that’s a good feeling. We still have many goals to achieve together.”
Bayern’s Support for Their Captain
Bayern Munich’s sporting director Christoph Freund praised Neuer’s leadership and influence on the team:
“Manuel Neuer has been setting the bar for goalkeeping for over a decade. He’s our captain, a big figure at Bayern, and the team knows they can always rely on him. We’re delighted that we can chase our goals next season with him as well.”
Extending His Legendary Career
There had been speculation that Neuer might retire at the end of the season, especially after stepping away from international duty following Germany’s Euro 2024 exit.
However, this new deal will see the shot-stopper continue playing beyond his 40th birthday.
Bayern board member for sport, Max Eberl, highlighted Neuer’s immense impact on the sport:
“Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper of his generation and a Bayern icon. When you talk about goalkeeping in our time, you talk about Manuel Neuer – and that’s worldwide.
He’s an absolute role model, both on and off the pitch. We’re delighted that this unique and successful relationship will continue.”
Aiming for More Silverware
With Neuer’s experience and leadership, Bayern Munich remains a dominant force in German and European football.
As he continues to guard the goal for another season, fans can expect more historic moments from one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.
This contract extension is not just about continuity—it’s about Bayern’s ambition to remain at the top. With Neuer in goal, the Bavarian giants will be aiming for more Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and Champions League glory in the seasons to come.
