Manchester City’s woes deepened on Wednesday as winger Savinho was stretchered off during their 2-1 Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham, adding to the Premier League champions’ growing injury list.
The Brazil winger was in tears as he was carried off the field in the 63rd minute after hurting his right ankle following a driving run into the penalty area.
City manager Pep Guardiola revealed that Savinho’s injury will be assessed on Thursday.
“Tomorrow we have two ‘keepers and Erling Haaland for a training session, the rest we don’t have,” Guardiola said, highlighting the severity of the crisis.
The champions are already without key players Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Jérémy Doku, and Oscar Bobb.
Rodri, who won the Ballon d’Or award on Monday, has been ruled out for the season with an ACL injury.

Manuel Akanji, who was a doubt coming into the game due to a knee issue, was also lost during the warm-up.
Rúben Dias has been playing through a problem, Guardiola confirmed.
“This is the worst injury situation I’ve experienced since arriving in 2016,” Guardiola said.
“We are 13 players. We are in real difficulty, but we have to make the effort.
The guys who played, most finished with problems, and we will see how they recover.”
Guardiola expressed optimism that the remaining players will rally together to overcome the challenges.
“I think when we are in trouble like we are, the players make a step forward. They are more together than ever.”
City leads the Premier League by a point from Liverpool after nine games. Tottenham also picked up two injuries during the match, with Micky van de Ven suffering a hamstring issue and Timo Werner potentially facing fatigue.
The extent of Savinho’s injury will be revealed on Thursday, but one thing is certain – Manchester City’s injury crisis has reached critical levels.
