Pep Guardiola Drops Hint on Rodri’s Comeback Amid Manchester City’s Title Push

Rodri latest injury update

Manchester City fans have been given a glimmer of hope as Pep Guardiola hinted that Rodri might make an earlier-than-expected return before the end of the season.

The Spanish midfielder, who has been sidelined since September due to knee surgery, has begun individual training at the City Football Academy, fueling speculation about his comeback.

Rodri has been instrumental in City’s midfield dominance, and his absence has been felt in key matches. Initially, Guardiola ruled out any possibility of his return this season.

However, City recently released a video of the 28-year-old engaging in light training, running, and kicking a ball outdoors, suggesting significant progress in his recovery.

“The fans must know they are not the only ones who are excited,” Guardiola said, acknowledging the buzz around Rodri’s fitness update.

“It’s been five or six months. After the international break, it could be. But one step at a time. We don’t have to make stupid decisions to bring him back weeks earlier.”

While Guardiola remains cautious, his latest comments have raised expectations.

“He’s touching the ball today in the locker room, making touches with the players. He feels confident, he feels happier,” he added.

Guardiola initially dismissed the idea of Rodri returning for the FIFA Club World Cup, but he is now leaving the door open for a Premier League comeback.

“I could not expect [that he could return] before the end of the season, not even the [Club] World Cup. In the Premier League, maybe it’s going to happen,” he admitted.

With City chasing FA Cup, Rodri’s return would provide a massive boost in midfield. His presence has been pivotal in Guardiola’s tactical setup, and his return could strengthen City’s title defense.

Nathan Aké Injury Concern

Meanwhile, City are monitoring Nathan Aké’s condition after he was substituted at halftime during their 3-1 FA Cup win over Plymouth Argyle.

The Dutch defender has struggled with foot issues throughout the season, and Guardiola is hoping for a positive update.

“We’ll do the test, but he struggles sometimes with the feet. It’s been like this the whole season for the central defenders,” Guardiola stated.

He also hinted that City’s young defenders, including Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, might need to step up in Aké’s absence.

What’s Next for Manchester City?

With a free week before their trip to Nottingham Forest, Guardiola has time to assess his squad’s fitness. If Rodri continues to progress well, City fans may witness his return sooner than expected. His potential comeback could be a game-changer in the final stretch of the season.

Rodri’s recovery timeline remains uncertain, but Guardiola’s latest comments suggest an earlier-than-anticipated return is possible.

As Manchester City aim for silverware, his presence in midfield could be crucial. With key matches ahead, City fans will be eagerly watching Rodri’s progress, hoping their midfield maestro can make a triumphant return before the season’s end.
