Mikel Arteta: Arsenal “Very Alert” in January Transfer Market Amid Injury Woes

Mikel Arteta Arsenal active in Transfer market

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that the club is “very alert” in the January transfer market following a fresh injury setback for rising star Ethan Nwaneri, who is set to be sidelined for several weeks.

Nwaneri had been stepping in for the injured Bukayo Saka on the right wing during Arsenal’s last two Premier League matches.

However, his impressive run was cut short when he was forced off after scoring in the Gunners’ victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

“Unfortunately, he’s picked up a muscular injury,” Arteta confirmed on Monday. “He will be out for a few weeks.”

The injury adds to Arsenal’s growing concerns in attack, with Raheem Sterling also unavailable and Kai Havertz doubtful for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semifinal clash against Newcastle United due to illness.

Transfer Window Opportunities

Arteta acknowledged the club’s need to monitor the market closely, hinting at potential reinforcements to address the team’s depleted forward options.

“We are very alert to what happens in the market,” Arteta said.

“It’s not a yes, it’s not a no. But bringing in bodies just for the sake of it doesn’t help.”

Eyes on Alexander Isak

Arsenal will face Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium for the first leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal on Tuesday, providing an opportunity to see Alexander Isak up close.

The Swedish striker, in red-hot form with nine goals in his last seven league games, has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, however, has been adamant that Isak is not for sale in January.

“Obviously, he’s a top player and in top form,” Arteta said of Isak.

“He’s scoring a lot of goals, but our focus will be on minimizing the strengths of the opposition.”

Arsenal’s Ambitions

As Arsenal contend with injuries and a packed fixture schedule, Arteta’s strategy in the transfer market and on the pitch will be pivotal in maintaining their momentum in domestic competitions.

With Newcastle as tough opponents and the Carabao Cup semifinal on the line, Arsenal will need to rise to the challenge, potentially with new faces on board.
