Argentina National team urges fans to refrain from discriminatory chants ahead of World Cup Qualifier
In a bid to avoid potential FIFA sanctions, the Argentina national team has appealed to fans to refrain from using offensive or discriminatory chants during the World Cup CONMEBOL qualifying match against Chile on Thursday.
The plea comes after a video surfaced of the team singing a discriminatory chant that targeted France players of African heritage following their 1-0 win over Colombia in the Copa América final.
The incident sparked an investigation by Chelsea and FIFA, with the French Football Federation vowing to file a legal complaint over the “racist and discriminatory remarks.”
Despite the backlash, the chant has continued to be sung by Argentina fans at various football matches, including before the 2022 World Cup final against France.
However, La Albiceleste is now urging supporters to show their enthusiasm without resorting to offensive language.

The team said:
“If offensive or discriminatory chants are present, FIFA will apply a sanction of a capacity reduction in the next Argentina match hosted at home,”
If the chants are heard during the match against Chile at the Estadio Mâs Monumental, the penalty would be applied to the World Cup qualifier against Bolivia on October 15 in Buenos Aires.
The Argentina national team is calling on fans to unite in their support without using discriminatory language, ensuring a positive and respectful atmosphere at the stadium.
