Sir Jim Ratcliffe Backs Ruben Amorim for Long-Term Success at Manchester United

Rubben Amorim backed by Manchester United owner

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has thrown his full support behind Ruben Amorim, affirming that the Portuguese manager will remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future despite a challenging start to his tenure.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, has struggled to turn things around, securing only 11 wins in 26 matches. This has fueled speculation that United could seek a managerial change in the summer.

However, Ratcliffe remains steadfast in his belief that the former Sporting CP boss is the right man for the job.

Speaking to the BBC, Ratcliffe praised Amorim’s work under difficult circumstances, emphasizing his confidence in the 40-year-old tactician.

“If I actually look at the squad available to Ruben, I think he is doing a really good job, to be honest,” Ratcliffe said.

“I think Ruben is an outstanding young manager. He’s an excellent coach, and I believe he will be here for a long time.”

Man United’s Struggles and Squad Overhaul

United’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday left them 14th in the Premier League table, compounding frustrations following last season’s disappointing eighth-place finish the club’s worst in the Premier League era.

Ratcliffe did not hold back in his assessment of the current squad, suggesting that some players “are not good enough” while others “are overpaid.”

He acknowledged that reshaping the team will take time but remains committed to a long-term rebuild.

“We’ve got this period of transformation where we move from the past to the future,” Ratcliffe added.

Fan Protests and Financial Challenges

Ratcliffe was present at Old Trafford on Sunday as thousands of fans staged protests before kickoff. While most of the anger was directed at majority owners, the Glazer family, Ratcliffe himself has faced backlash for implementing cost-cutting measures, including laying off 450 staff members.

Additionally, the 72-year-old British billionaire has sanctioned ticket price increases, a decision he insists is necessary to prevent financial instability at the club.

“We are in the process of change, and it’s an uncomfortable period. I do feel sympathy with the fans,” Ratcliffe explained.

“The simple answer is the club runs out of money at Christmas if we don’t do these things.”

Despite the turbulence, Ratcliffe’s backing of Amorim signals a commitment to stability as the club undergoes significant restructuring. With major squad changes expected in the summer, the coming months will be crucial for United’s revival under Amorim’s leadership.
