Antony’s Agent Refutes Manchester United Coach Ruben Amorim’s Claims on Premier League Physicality

Antony agent decline Ruben Amori claim

Antony’s agent, Júnior Pedroso, has strongly dismissed Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s assertion that the Brazilian winger struggled in the Premier League due to physicality issues.

The 25-year-old, currently on a six-month loan at Real Betis, managed just 12 goals in 96 appearances for United following his £85 million ($109m) move from Ajax in 2022.

Amorim, who took charge at Old Trafford in November, suggested Antony found it difficult to cope with the league’s physical demands.

However, Pedroso disagrees, stating Amorim’s assessment is an oversimplification.

“We respect coach Ruben Amorim’s opinion, but we completely disagree with his analysis.”

“Blaming Antony’s lack of success at United solely on physicality is a superficial argument that does not reflect reality.”

Lack of Playing Time Hindered Antony’s Performance, Says Agent

Pedroso believes Antony was not given enough opportunities under Amorim to showcase his abilities.

“Antony did not receive the prominence or confidence needed to play his best football,” he explained.

“In the 15 games Amorim has managed Manchester United, Antony was only used in nine, totaling just 252 minutes—only 18.6% of the available 1,350 minutes. How can an athlete be fairly judged without sufficient playing time?”

Antony himself admitted last month that his loan move to Betis was the fresh start his career needed after struggling for form at United.

Antony Thriving at Real Betis

Since joining Betis, Antony has quickly rediscovered his rhythm, contributing two goals and two assists in just five LaLiga appearances.

“It has been an incredible experience for Antony and his family,” Pedroso added.

“He has adapted seamlessly, feeling right at home in Seville. The city, the club, and the team’s playing style have been a perfect fit for him.”

With his loan deal not including a purchase option, Antony is set to return to United this summer. However, Betis have already expressed a strong desire to retain him beyond this season.

Antony remains under contract at Manchester United until June 2027, leaving his future uncertain as both clubs assess their next steps.
