In a competitive field, Messi edged out contenders such as Columbus Crew’s Cucho Hernández, Portland Timbers’ Evander, D.C. United’s Christian Benteke, and his own Inter Miami teammate Luis Suárez.
The 37-year-old’s stellar performance included an impressive tally of 20 goals and 16 assists across just 19 matches.
This achievement places Messi alongside MLS legends Carlos Vela (2019) and Sebastian Giovinco (2015) as the only players in league history to record at least 20 goals and 15 assists in a single season.
A Remarkable First Full Season
Messi joined Inter Miami in July 2023 and played his first full MLS season in 2024.
Despite featuring in only 55% of Miami’s regular-season matches due to an ankle injury, his impact was undeniable. In the 1,485 minutes he played, Messi averaged a league-record 2.18 goal contributions per game, according to MLS data.
His extraordinary efficiency led the league in goals per 90 minutes, solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
