Alexander Isak’s Contract Talks With Newcastle Stall – Could Arsenal Swoop In?

Alexander Isak contract

Newcastle United’s star striker Alexander Isak is reportedly unhappy with recent contract discussions, a development that could pique Arsenal’s interest in the Swedish forward.

Arsenal has been linked with Isak for years, dating back to his days at Real Sociedad, and his impressive form in the Premier League has only fueled the club’s interest.

Since joining Newcastle in 2022, Isak has scored 40 goals in 78 appearances under Eddie Howe, including a recent streak of four goals in four games. Among these was the decisive goal in Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal in early November.

Newcastle had hoped to lock down Isak with a new deal, as they successfully did with Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, aiming to ward off interest from top clubs.

However, reports from TBR Football suggest that Isak’s camp has been “shocked” by Newcastle’s position in negotiations, with key issues such as salary and a potential release clause proving contentious.

Isak had anticipated reaching an agreement over the summer that would make him one of the club’s highest-paid players, but no deal materialized.

When asked about Isak’s contract situation, Eddie Howe acknowledged the complexity, mentioning that financial sustainability regulations are also a factor.

Regarding contracts, I’m not involved in those discussions day-to-day,” Howe explained.

“With Alex, he’s got a long contract anyway at the club, and we have to be careful with our spending due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR). It’s not a clear-cut situation.”

Isak’s current contract runs until 2028, which puts Newcastle in a strong position to retain him.

However, the unresolved negotiations could present an opportunity for Arsenal and other interested clubs to potentially make a move.
