Arsenal legend Ian Wright remains optimistic about the Gunners’ Premier League title hopes despite their recent slip-up, a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday that leaves them further behind league leaders Liverpool.
The former England striker even suggested humorously that Arsenal should consider a refreshing trip to Dubai, similar to last season’s successful mid-season break that revitalized their form.
In the match at Stamford Bridge, Arsenal took the lead through Gabriel Martinelli’s goal, but Pedro Neto’s brilliant strike leveled the score.
The draw places Arsenal in fourth place after 11 games, trailing Liverpool by nine points, Manchester City by four, and sitting level with Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Brighton.
Currently winless in four Premier League games, some pundits have cast doubts on Arsenal’s title pursuit, especially after they challenged City closely in the previous two seasons.
However, Wright believes the draw against an in-form Chelsea is still a positive result that keeps Arsenal in the race. On his
“Wrighty’s House” podcast, he shared his perspective:
“A Chelsea side that’s gaining momentum, and we still went there and got a point. I’m counting that as a good point after 11 games,” Wright commented.
“The league isn’t settled yet. This season will likely see teams dropping points, including City. This one point could turn out to be invaluable.”
While Liverpool currently appears dominant, Wright thinks their form might dip at some point.

“Liverpool’s strong right now, with momentum, goalscorers, and a solid defense, and Kelleher performing well in Alisson’s place.
But they might hit a hiccup.”
“The goal is to stay in the race, as a loss here would’ve left us too far behind.”
The upcoming international break arrives at a crucial time for Arsenal, as players like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice can recover from their recent injuries.
Wright speculated that Arsenal might prefer these key players sit out the national duties to aid their recovery, given Lee Carsley’s final call-up.
Adding to Wright’s lighthearted Dubai suggestion, podcast guest Clive Palmer chimed in with, “Get to Dubai for a few days!” Wright agreed, saying, “Yes! You know what happens when we go to Dubai.
We come back recharged, ready for battle!”
Last season, Arteta took the squad to Dubai after a challenging spell, leading to a near-flawless run in their remaining 18 league games.
While the congested calendar, especially with Champions League fixtures, may complicate such a trip this season, Arteta confirmed the club is looking to arrange a similar break early next year.
Until then, Arsenal will aim to regain their winning momentum as they host Nottingham Forest on November 23.
